Zurich, Switzerland, May 23, 2019 – The Zurich-based pharmaceutical company Medinova has switched to the new cloud-based solution Empower 3 AWS, a chromatography data system (CDS) combined with the secure cloud services platform of Amazon Web Services (AWS). Chromatography is a laboratory technique for the separation of a mixture. The digital switchover project started in June 2018 and was successfully completed in February 2019 with the Summary Validation Report.
The assessment of fundamental Good Practice requirements, such as regulatory compliance and data integrity, led to the selection of the CDS Empower 3 FR4 Software from the manufacturer Waters. The combination of Empower 3 together with the cloud solution by Amazon Web Services cloud provides not only data security but also cost-effective management of the system and the generated data. “We can record, analyze, store and globally utilize the enormous amounts of chromatography data in accordance with the ALCOA ++++ principles”, said Tamara Andreoli, Manager, Development Analytics at Medinova, who worked intensively on this project.
Other advantages that the cloud-based Empower 3 AWS offers are associated with the opportunity to use standardized and scalable services by the Amazon Cloud. This enables the dismissal of the laborious maintenance of an own server and the corresponding high-security room and provides full cost control.
“Our motivation to implement the high-end Empower CDS system in a cloud-based surrounding from Amazon Web Services is driven by our customers' need to market high-quality products at competitive prices. In this context, it quickly became clear that ‒ for the selection of a suitable CDS ‒ only the best was good enough,” commented Frank Buennig, Managing Director at Medinova. “This applies to the safety of our patients as well as to the economic viability.”
“The successful collaboration between Medinova and Waters has demonstrated that the selection of an established manufacturer is absolutely decisive. The qualification of service providers and suppliers is essential for the implementation of combined computer system solutions. We are very proud to have met Medinova's requirements and delivered a fantastic product,” said Rolf Gehrig, Key Account Manager at Waters Switzerland.
