DKSH and Sensus granted health claim in Thailand for Sensus' Inulin chicory root fiber

DKSH and Sensus have jointly been granted a Thai FDA-approved health claim for Sensus' Inulin bifidogenic effect chicory root fiber

Media release

Bangkok, July 17, 2020 – DKSH Thailand Business Unit Performance Materials and Sensus, a leading supplier of chicory root fiber based in the Netherlands, have been granted a Thai FDA-approved health claim for Sensus' Inulin chicory root fiber, which increases bifidobacteria in the intestine.

The new health claim will apply exclusively to support the ingredient declaration of Sensus' Frutafit® inulin and Frutalose® fructo-oligosaccharides: prebiotic dietary fibers extracted from chicory root that help to increase the beneficial gut bacteria and improve digestive health. As well as fiber enrichment, these ingredients can also be used to replace sugar and fat while improving taste for food products. Frutafit® inulin and Frutalose® fructo-oligosaccharides from chicory roots can be applied to dairy, soy-based products, breakfast cereals and food supplements among others. The claim will appear on product labelling and all related marketing materials.

DKSH provides distribution, logistics, sales and marketing, regulatory support and consumer information services, to Sensus.

Paul Vennik, Director, Marketing & Sales, Sensus, said: “This valuable cooperation between Sensus and DKSH Thailand to realize this new health claim will be an asset for food manufacturers to contribute to consumer health in Thailand.”

Songsin Sungkhawaetai, General Manager, Food & Beverage Industry, DKSH Thailand, said: “As there are only a few health claims approved in Thailand, we are extremely proud with the approved health claim for Sensus' chicory root fiber. Thanks to rigorous research and development, as well as efficient regulatory affairs led by both Sensus and DKSH, we have produced ample scientific evidence to prove the positive health contribution of chicory root fiber for Thai people everywhere.”

As consumers grow more health-conscious and seek healthier food choices, there is enormous potential for businesses in Thailand to use chicory root fiber in various applications and capitalize on the rising demand for natural food ingredients.
