Media release

Tokyo, Japan, January 8, 2020 – DKSH Japan and Oro de Cacao, a revolutionary Swiss chocolate brand, will join the Salon du Chocolat 2020 trade show in Tokyo, Japan from January 27 to February 2.

Oro de Cacao is the chocolate brand founded in 2017 by the entrepreneur Dieter Meier in Zurich, Switzerland. His eponymous company utilizes an innovative manufacturing technique that is reminiscent of the ancient Mayan tradition of "cold extraction". This technique was developed and internationally patented by the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW).

Dieter Meier's bean-to-bar chocolate originates from 100 percent natural extracts, contains no excess ingredients and produces very rich aromas. Oro de Cacao has chosen Japan's Salon du Chocolat as its first overseas showcase appearance and has partnered with DKSH to leverage its expertise as the leading Market Expansion Services provider with a focus on Asia.

Dieter Meier, founder and owner of the company, commented: "I am excited to present this ʽCocoa Revolutionʼ to the Japanese market. With our products, we present the finest Swiss chocolate with ʽ100 percent original cocoa flavorʼ, which is unique in the world of chocolate. Our revolutionary, worldwide patented cold extraction process of the cocoa bean extracts only the key elements: cocoa butter and cocoa powder, both with 100 percent natural flavor, 100 percent natural aroma molecules and polyphenols, which constitute the bitter components. Thanks to our unique process, we can produce chocolate with 85 percent cocoa and no bitterness. We can therefore reduce sugar substantially. This keeps the full aroma of the cocoa bean, producing single origin chocolate."

Michael Loefflad, President & Representative Director of DKSH Japan, said: "We are very honored to be a part of Oro de Cacao's ʽCocoa Revolutionʼ in Japan. Their patented cold extraction process creates a rich taste of chocolate with significantly less sugar content. This meets the ongoing consumer trend of light but rich-in-taste sweets. We are convinced that this type of new chocolate will also match the delicate taste of Japanese consumers. Being a chocolate addict myself, I have tried the Oro de Cacao chocolate and am delighted by its fine aroma. Presenting it at Salon du Chocolat 2020 will certainly be one early highlight of our food and beverage business next year. I invite you to visit us at the booth and stop by at the Salon du Chocolat online store, which will be inaugurated during the event."
