Jakarta, Indonesia, November 28, 2019 – Following the successful Palu-Donggala earthquake's charity in 2018, DKSH partners with the Indonesian Red Cross again this year. The collaboration aims to deliver an impact across various social aspects. DKSH's donation will support the Indonesian Red Cross's program Sahabat WASH PMI, evolving around the four key elements of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) as well as safety and education. Through the program, DKSH and the organization create access to clean water, provide sanitation and safety facilities, supply hygiene kits and offer a workshop series on waste reduction. The Sahabat WASH PMI program has been successful in providing many schools with better WASH facilities.
As both organizations are located in Jakarta, DKSH and the Red Cross assessed several schools in this region and chose five for the program. To initiate the project, DKSH and the Indonesian Red Cross held a ceremonial kick-off event at one school, which had no water access before. During the ceremony, all attendees had the chance to experience the positive impact of the donation, namely the water tank with its draining system canaled to the school bathrooms. These newly built facilities are now used daily by the citizens of the surrounding area. The Indonesian Red Cross continues working on various additional safety and sanitation installations, supplying amenities for students and organizing waste-reduction workshops.
DKSH's subsidiary in Indonesia, PT Wicaksana, joined the program by donating 200 school supplies to students as well as pencils through their ‘One Like, One Happy Student' online campaign.
‘'The Sahabat Wash PMI program is in line with the vision and mission we have for the country, as sanitation and education are top priorities in every of our organization's humanitarian movement.'' said Soma Atmaja, Head of Red Cross Indonesia of the Kabupaten Tangerang Region.
‘'We are very happy to collaborate with the Indonesian Red Cross again this year to achieve a combined impact for health, safety and education. Our shared values with the Red Cross have now transformed into action for clean water access, sanitation supplies and safety, among many others. Together, we foster social progress in the markets where we are present‘' said Lim Pin Tay, President Director of DKSH Indonesia and PT Wicaksana.
