DKSH Supports BaiyaPhytopharm in Research and Development of Locally Manufactured COVID-19 Vaccines

DKSH provides cold chain logistical support to BaiyaPhytopharm for the research and development of the first plant-based COVID-19 vaccine in Thailand

Bangkok, November 7, 2022 – DKSH Business Unit Healthcare, a leading partner for healthcare companies seeking to grow their business in Asia and beyond, has provided logistical support to BaiyaPhytopharm, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, focused on strengthening health security for all people using the BaiyaPharming protein for therapeutics and vaccines.

Since 2021, DKSH has provided logistical support to BaiyaPhytopharm by transporting the Intermediate Crude Extract (ICE) of tobacco leaves from BaiyaPhytopharm’s laboratory to the Kingen Biotech and Queen Saovabha Memorial Institutes for vaccine production. DKSH’s cold chain solution has been instrumental in fulfilling the critical temperature control requirements of two to eight degrees Celsius during transit to preserve the quality of the vaccines.

Dr. Suthira Taychakhoonavudh, CEO and Co-founder of BaiyaPhytopharm, said “We are currently in the second generation of research and development for plant-based COVID-19 vaccines, which have demonstrated high protective efficacy against the COVID-19 virus and the capacity to deal with various types of mutated viruses. However, the research and development of vaccines require strict temperature control to preserve vaccine efficacy. We are confident that DKSH's expertise and uniqueness in cold chain management will maintain the quality of our vaccine throughout all stages of our research, and that we will be able to deliver the COVID-19 vaccine to Thai people in the near future."

Patrik Grande, Vice President, Business Unit Healthcare, DKSH Thailand, commented: “We are proud to support the Thai research organization in its efforts to develop locally manufactured COVID-19 vaccines. DKSH has the capabilities and expertise to manage the storage and distribution of vaccines, cold chain products, medicines, and medical devices. Coupled with our experience in the continuous distribution of vaccines in Thailand, we are ready to provide BaiyaPhytopharm logistical support throughout the research and development of COVID-19 vaccines. We look forward to taking part in the delivery of COVID-19 vaccines to Thai people, allowing them access to locally manufactured vaccines and elevating the pharmaceutical industry in Thailand, which reflects the DKSH's core purpose of enriching people's lives."
