When severe drought and floods hit Thailand, DKSH Cummins promptly provide heavy-duty industrial powerpack solutions to help ease Thailand’s water crisis, while minimizing the impact on the local communities.
Renowned Bangkok-based company, Kittithanapat Engineering Company (KTP), has been involved in water management systems since 1996. They work closely with authorities such as the Royal Irrigation Department, the Department of Water Resources, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority.
Challenge
In recent decades, Thailand has faced recurring water crises stemming from both prolonged droughts and sudden floods. Insufficient water reserves in dams and reservoirs are a constant issue, exacerbated by contamination from urban, industrial, and agricultural sources, leading to toxic pollutants in water resources.
The imminent threat of climate change only intensifies these challenges, making severe flooding an ever-present danger to the communities. As a result, the allocation of precious water resources, which must be shared among various stakeholders including new and existing industries, large and small agriculture businesses, cities, and villages has become a flashpoint.
Approach
To help KTP meet its urgent requirements, Cummins DKSH (Thailand) supplied 60 units of CustomPak. These fully self-contained powerpacks are coupled with hydraulically driven, large-volume submersible water pumps and can be used for a wide variety of industries including agriculture, construction, mining, and emergency services.
They serve a dual purpose during both droughts and floods, particularly aiding in water management for irrigation systems to support agricultural activities. During the rainy season, in flood-prone areas, the pumps can swiftly remove excess water from agricultural areas and efficiently transfer it to reservoirs or ponds.
Our team acted promptly to mitigate the impact on the affected areas and communities. The decision for KTP to select and implement CustomPak solutions was largely influenced by our strong technical expertise and comprehensive aftersales support.
Result
The powerpacks are operating successfully in Thailand as part of a critical water management plan aimed at easing the country’s water crisis.
The ability of Cummins DKSH to quickly respond within the short delivery times proved critical to the customer’s business operations.
